Mission & Vision
We envision a future where outdoor clothing and gear is designed for repair, repair shops are thriving, and every brand is part of a circular economy rooted in skill, sustainability, and stewardship.
OIRA was founded to close the gap between brands, repair facilities, and consumers in order to keep gear in use and out of the landfill.
We partner across disciplines to create scalable repair infrastructure and products designed for circularity. Some of our core work includes:

Start Conversations
Unite brands, fixers, and consumers in a repair-driven movement.
Set Standards
Establish national repair standards for technical repair.
Design for Repair
Advocate for Design for Repair (DFR) and circular product planning.
Workforce Development
Promote repair as a skilled trade and workforce opportunity.
Track Impact
Track and share measurable impact such as waste diverted, carbon avoided, and wages generated.
Share Resources
Connect repair facilities with supply chains, share best-of practices, and assist with repair logistics.
Founders Note
“I started OIRA after a decade of repairing outdoor gear and seeing firsthand how many people, products, and brands are ready for a circular future–but lack the structure to make it happen. This alliance is about uniting skill, design, infrastructure, and action to create an outdoor industry that truly walks its sustainable talk.”
– Kimberly Kinney, Founder of Rugged Thread
